DLR GfR at the Space Forum in Brussels: Advocating for Europe’s Strategic Autonomy in Space
As the Space Forum in Brussels draws to a close, DLR GfR is proud to have participated as a sponsor and contributor to one of the key discussions shaping the future of Europe’s role in space.
A highlight of our presence was the participation of our Galileo Project Lead, Christian Heßmann, in Session 6: “Delivering Autonomy – Ensuring Europe’s Independent Space Capabilities”. Together with high-level representatives from the European Commission, UK government, and the space industry, he explored how cooperation, innovation, and strategic policymaking are essential to strengthening Europe’s sovereignty in space.

Christian emphasized the importance of secure and resilient navigation systems like Galileo as a backbone of Europe’s autonomous capabilities. Representing DLR GfR’s operational exper-tise at the Galileo Control Centers in Oberpfaffenhofen and Fucino, he brought a practical perspective to the panel’s discussion on the challenges and opportunities ahead.
We thank the organizers of the Space Forum for bringing together such a diverse and impact-ful group of voices. DLR GfR remains committed to shaping the future of secure European space infrastructure—today and in the decades to come.
